SOME NATURAL DRUGS USED BY OUR ANCESTORS ALSO USEFUL NOW WITH ZERO SIDE EFFECTS

 

·         MORINGA

 

Moringa leaves mostly known as (zogale) can be used to combat anaemia, and it is well known to consumed in northern Nigeria and the rest of African countries.  

 

·         GINGER

 

This is used as spices for cooking many delicacies and  sometimes used in tea.  Our ancestors mostly used this to combat stomach disorder.

 

·         TUMERIC

 

Tumeric is a powerful antioxidant, because of this turmeric is useful to detoxifies liver and kidney.  

 

·         SOURSOP

 

This is a large acidic custard apple  with white fibrous flesh. Soursop and some other fruits can be used to treat cancer.

 

·         KOLANUT

 

This is a small evergreen African tree cultivated in the tropics, whose seed contain caffeine which is stimulant or energy giving. Kolanut is chewed by many in Nigerians and the rest countries. The extract from kolanut can be used in producing cola drinks. Kolanut is a powerful stimulant, Excess in kolanut or caffeine is dangerous to to health, a moderate amount is useful to health.  

 

·         BITTER LEAF

 

This is the powerful antioxidant highly effective in controlling blood sugar, also detoxifies liver and kidney. It is useful in making soup delicacies. It has other health benefit like controlling insomnia and in ability to sleep.

 

·         HONEY/LEMON

 

Honey can be used with lemon to fight cough and cold. It is also useful in many other ways for health benefit like insomnia.

 

·          GARLIC

 

This is the natural potent anti biotic with antibacterial and antiviral properties. It is popularly used as spice in cooking. The active ingredient in garlic is alicin. It can also be used to prevent or combat cancer and treat common cold or flu. 

 

·         NEEM/DONGONYARO

 

A tropical old world tree which yields mahogany like wood, oil, medicinal product, and insecticide. Neem contain active ingredient called quinine. The extract is commonly used to treat malaria.
